The snow swirled and whipped the air in a mini blizzard, confusing the land and sky into a blurry combination. A harsh chill snapped at each snowflake like a rabid dog. The village was long abandoned, just a sterile ring of buildings remained, only a few still had their windows. Icicles thicker than a bodybuilder's forearm clung desperately to every ledge with enough shelter from ice storms.
Dodend panted, his magical reserves completely drained. He pulled his cloak a little tighter around his shoulders and hunched into the biting wind. Even with his visual prowess, it was almost impossible to see through the flurry of snow all around them. With a squint, he became thankful that his aim hadn't been off by too much, they were only a few metres from the stocked wood hut. It was too loud with the whistling wind, so he resorted to mental communication ~The hut's not far, stick close, I don't want to lose you in this.~ they trudged through the deep snow and ice.
The winds and snow ripped through the open doorway as they pressed their way into the hut, Dodend forced the door shut against the elements and in an instant the temperature within the hut rose about five degrees. "Well, we're here.", he ruffled the snow from his hair, pulling out one of the vials he'd checked earlier and swigging down the contents. His magical energy perked up immediately, but nowhere near his usual level, that would regenerate over time, but with the level now sitting in his reserves would be enough to get by.

~You'll never lose me again.~ She assured him.
Once inside, Sandine pressed her back to a wall with a hand on her head. She stared down at the floor, waiting for her body to settle. "Now I remember why we don't do that more often," she commented. She shuddered almost violently. "Gods be damned it's colder out here than I thought." She pulled her cloak's hood up and snuggled into it.

Dodend lifted a large sheet from a pile of crates in the corner, revealing an array of furs. Each one more exotic than the last. A glint of icy white dragon scales peeked out from a soft grey fur. He walked over to a small stove, setting a fire within, "It should warm up soon.", he ran a hand over her hair softly, "I'm sure you'd be fine if there was less of a distance. It will be easier on the way back, I promise.", with a soft kiss, he wrapped his cloak around Sandine, sharing his heat, "But for now, lets get you nice and warm."
The fire only took a few minutes to heat the room, the sheet of ice on the outside of the windows was beginning to slowly melt away as the snowstorm began to die down a little. "Feel free to any supplies you like my love, what's mine is yours."

"I'm alright," she assured him. She snatched up one of the furs from the crate and curled up with it on a section of the floor by the fire. Once she was defrosted she spread the fur out on the floor to sit on. "Much better," she said softly to herself. She held up her hands and warmed her palms. She looked back to Dodend.
"You should eat something. It'll help you get your strength back."

Dodend smiled, lifting off his cloak and hanging it on a sturdy hook by the door before joining Sandine by the fire, "I don't need to eat right now my love. I've got enough magic stored up for emergencies.", he slipped the scroll from his pack and inspected it, making sure it had travelled okay, "With a quick rest to stock up on supplies and some minor preparations, we should be good to go.", the scroll passed his inspection and he slipped it back into a secured area of his pack, "We skipped breakfast, you're going to need something to burn up out there. So...", he pulled a few air-sealed packets from his pack, "Venison, or Twilighter meat?"

She rested her head against his arm, thumb trailing over his skin idly. "If I'M in need of something to burn out there so are you!" she insisted in annoyance. Her lip jutted out in a slight pout. She gestured to the packets. "You didn't have breakfast either and magic reserves or not you have just as much energy as I do. You need to eat." She paused. "As for what, venison." She never liked Twilighter as much.

Dodend smiled, pressing a warm kiss to her pouted lips, "I'll let you win this time.", he joked. With a pack in each hand he channelled his energy and growing magic reserve until steam rose from his skin, the heat passing directly into the meat contained within both meals until they were fully prepared. The magic snapped back within him, swirling in its resting spot as he handed Sandine the hot packet of venison and ripped open the Twilighter meat. The aroma floated around the room as the super-heated steam flew from the packet.
With his demon-tainted bloodline, Dodend didn't tend to feel the cold as much. Anywhere he could connect to the underworld boosted his energy, letting him recover and warm up swiftly, but he never did much enjoy arguing with Sandine, unless it was bound to lead them into a bed. The twilighter meat didn't last long, it's rich flavour suggested it had been adapted to a harsher environment than its cousins in the plains. They always tasted rather sweet. "Nice venison?"

She ate in dainty bites. Sometimes it was hard to forget her noble upbringing especially when it tended to come out in her habits like mounting a horse or manners. She paused after chewing and swallowing. "Mhm. Much better than Twilighter," she teased.
Much as she hated to admit it, home had given her some bias when it came to food. She banished the thought from her mind. Home wasn't home. That life was never meant for her. She smirked to herself. Her family would simply die if they knew Dodend. It gave her great pleasure. She ran a hand through his hair. "Feeling better?" she asked, hopeful.

"I always feel better when you're near.", he leaned into her hand as it ran through his hair, a contented look on his face, "I've got a good connection to a soul font from here, another minute or so and I'll have enough of my reserves back to level a city.", a smirk rose from the corner of his lips, "And to absolutely ravish you amongst the screams of agony from the city's people as they die off.", his voice thrummed with excitement at the thought.
His thoughts took a swing from the image that conjured up in his mind to remind him of the object he'd given to Spikes to safeguard, and it made him smile sneakily. Soon. he mused.

"Flatterer," Sandine said. She continued to lightly pet him affectionately. "Ravish me later," she laughed. "We've more to worry about." She let out a content sigh as she finally felt warm. It'd only taken the fire and his body heat to make her happy. Outside was going to be awful. "Though I could do with the screams. Lovely ambiance." She gave him a teasing poke on the nose. "Though if it's us...it might not be them screaming."

Dodend chuckled, "Oh I'm fairly sure they'd be screaming about it later on in their private chambers if they lived.", he kissed her fingertip. He glanced over at the boxed supplies, "I've got a present for you. I think you'll quite enjoy it.", with almost feline precision Dodend was on his feet and by the boxes. He shifted a bunch of furs out the way, finding the object of his quick search. White scales glittered as he swished the cloak from its resting place.
It was large enough to completely wrap Sandine in its embrace, the scales looked almost draconic but they were too circular and soft, rippling with the strangely furry skin they clung to. They moved like fluid, showing no resistance to the movement of the cloak's thick material. If she looked closely, the scales gave off the appearance of having formed from fur in the first place. "The skin of an albino glacier Twilighter.", Dodend beamed proudly, "Every single scale is the product of the beast adapting to dig through thick, moving ice.", he sank to a crouch by Sandine's side, showing the seam of the cloak. A layer of those strange scales formed the outside, attached to a thin black skin, but under the skin a thick coat of fur had been a barrier to the cold for this creature. Scales to take the pressure of digging, fur to stay warm, it was truly a strange yet wonderful adaptation. "Should works wonders to help you keep nice and warm my love."
He didn't dare mention how he'd managed to gain such a strange and rare skin. Dodend didn't like the concerned look she always gave him, hearing tales of hunts where he'd managed to get injured somehow.

The elf watched with a cocked eyebrow as he bounded over to the box. He moved like a cat. She loved that about him. He was even more graceful than some of the men of her home land...and far more interesting of course. When he produced whatever he was digging for, she put a hand to her chest. Her heart felt as if it'd skipped a beat. Sandine's eyes widened.
"It's beautiful," she said almost without breath. She threw her arms around him in one fluid motion, rather like a cat's pounce, of her own. She gave him an appreciative kiss on the cheek. "You never cease to amaze me. Thank you."
She was feeling rather comfortable at the moment thanks to the fur she was sitting on and the wool cloak she'd long since shed, but that sort of gift was sure to keep her content once they traveled on. Thank the demons below and gods above, she thought to herself, although she was sure Dodend could figure out her line of thinking. I cannot take another moment of not feeling my toes. Slow toes mean slow strikes. Slow strikes mean death.

Dodend watched Sandine's eyes widen with a soft grin, only she could truly appreciate such a gift. Only her, with the killer's mind knew the value of proper warmth in a place like this, and this skin afforded mobility and a degree of armouring. He felt it his duty to help protect her from the dangers of this place, especially as he had brought her here, not wishing to be apart from her a moment longer. It seemed only fitting. "You never need to thank me, I do it because I love you.", he draped the cloak over her shoulders, leaning in and placing a soft kiss against her cheek, a glint of his magical energy passing between them as the excess length in the Twilighter skin shifted, falling from the cloak and moving with a will of their own, guided by his influence to form a protective barrier round Sandine's footwear. There would be no cold toes, no slow strikes, he couldn't afford to lose her.
