"It's me who's asking the questions." said Topaz quite sharply. "Next, did you complete your education at school?"

Ell's expression dropped - she became calm, but utterly cool and businesslike.
"I did, and with straight A's. Why? Do actors not study these days?" she asked, in a way that harshened her accent and made it far more pronounced.

"Some go into acting because that's the only thing they are good at. So, what did you enjoy at school."

"I liked history. I loved literature. That's what I did at uni - drama and literature, specialising in dramatic playwrites. Shakespeare, Donne, Priestly and so on."

"You went to uni? That's good. So, what do you think of your colleagues?"

"It certainly is," she said testily. "My colleagues are good. I don't see much of the chorus but everyone I know is hardworking and we're pulling off a great-looking show. I owe my accent coach everything," she purred exotically.

"You get on well with your accent coach?" asked Topaz, making a scene of Ell's previous statement.

"Well, yes, but I wouldn't have perfected the accent without her," explained the Russian, emerging from behind the dressing screen in skinny blue leggings and a long, baggy white t-shirt with a black tribal design on it. She sat down in front of a mirror and started brushing out her tightly scraped-back hair.

"Her?" said Topaz, you could almost hear the headline. "Actress is seen with accent coach."

"Yes, her. Whyyyyy?" she asked suspiciously, turning around to stare at Topaz. Her eyes. Her eyes were blue - no, black? They were pebble hard. There was some sort of power in them. When she smiled at people, it made them want to check their wallet. Danger.

"Never mind." said Topaz, looking deep into those cold, merciless eyes. This would be fun, she thought, just to mess this one right up.

"Come on. If you turn this into a kiss-and-tell, Topaz, I won't let it lie. I'm not gay, if that's what you're wondering."

"I'm not wondering. I assure you." she said madly scribbling down some notes for later. "So, anyway. Would you like to go for some coffee?"

"Sure," she said, friendly again, typing her long, jet black hair into a ponytail. She stood up. And there it was. That glint. That smile. Check your wallet.

"Let me check something." Topaz reached down into her pocket. It was empty.
