Topaz stunned, shut up. Her more sensitive side kicked in. The girl, whatever she was, looked like she was going to cry.
"Are you alright?" she asked nervously still keeping her distance.

Ell didn't reply at first. She dragged a wrist across the back of her mouth.
"I didn't ask for this y'know. I'm not a monster," she said, tears filling her eyes but she spoke the first sentance quietly, almost to herself, and the second louder.

"Indeed." Topaz smiled, trying to seem polite if even for a second.
"Is there anything at all I could do? Anything you need?" she asked gently moving close to the girl - her back up, she felt so vulnerable.

Ell looked up at her, a hard, world-weary look in her eyes.
"Topaz, I'm dead." She paused. "I'm not being colloquial. I'm. Literally. Dead."

"Huh? I dont get it how can you be... dead. You're still moving, breathing and therefore living!" Topaz said utterly confused. Dead, how could she be?

"Gimmie your hand." Her voice was dull, flat. She held her hand palm up, waiting for Topaz to lay her palm flat against it.

Topaz was edgy but she lay her hand firmly on the other girls palm. There was something about her she could trust.

Ell knew what would happen. Her hand had all the sustainability of a hologram and Topaz's flesh and bone fell straight through.
"Are you sure?"

She gave a grim little chuckle, the sort when you're about to cry but can't believe what's happening. She turned and headed for the window.
No reflection. And she was floating three or so inches above the ground. When she turned to face Topaz her fangs were showing a little on her bottom lip. Somehow it added to her sex appeal - she was built to impossibly beautiful standards.
