Name of Species: Divine (a.k.a Shadow Hunters)
Rarity: No recorded history, (probably because the people who see a Divine, always end up dead or unable to speak)
Divine are an elusive race, barely ever seen by people who live long enough to tell the tale. They were once a peaceful race, born in the light above ground, but when they met other races, they were forced into hiding. They spent centuries on the run and eventually began to live in deep caves. Divine required social contact for survival, as they had to develop a warning system in case of attack. The constant darkness forced them to evolve, in the darkness a member of the Divine can see for miles, with absolute precision (meaning they could see a rat cleaning its paws at one end of a pitch black tunnel, from exactly seven miles away and watch it's whiskers twitch) but there is a downside to this evolution, Divine can't stand the light. In the process of evolution, they lost all of their resistance to sunlight and burn much like vampires do.
After this evolution, they became violent, full of hate towards those who had rejected them in the beginning, and came back to the surface. That was how they became aware of the reaction to sunlight, and discovered that they could barely see in the light, but they found a solution. Evolution took place again, giving the Divine the ability to blend in with the shadows, skin the colour of night and keen hearing. Divine learned how to use magic, and separated themselves from their bodies, turning into pure shadow, and that is how they have remained.
Werewolves sealed the Divine in another dimension to protect the other races, and the Divine can only enter this dimension through a summoning gate known as the Ark, but ArkVeins can be opened to allow the temporary passage of small numbers of Divine. The Ark was opened in this dimension approx forty years ago by a hidden Divine who escaped the sealing.
